Celtic Trad in Music and Song at WAW, July 31, 2025

A Celtic thread runs through music and song during the Wiscasset Art Walk on Thursday, July 31, 4-7pm and later, in Wiscasset Village.

The evening’s featured musician, Alex Bigney, plays Celtic harp on the sidewalk at the corner of Main and Middle St., near the Garden Club of Wiscasset’s flower stall. Alex lives in mid-coast and plays regionally, his music reflecting his Nova Scotia and Ukraine heritage. His music has been described as emotional; universal and personal at the same time. Alex has recorded five albums as a member of Kirkmount, a group made up of he and his two brothers and named for a deserted village in Nova Scotia where his ancestors once made music.

Golden Horizons: the Sunsets and Moonrises of Paul Batch

Golden Horizons: the Sunsets and Moonrises of Paul Batch

In “Still Waters, Rising Moon,” artist Paul Batch depicts a grouping of tall, slender trees with lush green foliage standing along the edge of a body of water. The distant moon, observed through the trees, hangs low on the horizon, and there is a soft glow of light to the muted marsh grasses in the foreground. The sky transitions down from warm to cool pinks to violets with a warm grey-violet haze extending along the horizon. The water mirrors the trees and sky, and the overall feeling that Batch achieves is one of tranquility and peace.

Chicken wire, sticks, and dried hydrangeas, put to an artful purpose, are the tools of the trade for dried floral designer Maria Salcines. During Wiscasset Art Walk on Thursday, August 29, 4-7pm, Salcines will install a cascading arrangement of dried florals in Wiscasset Village. Although much planning will have gone into the presentation, Salcines will be improvising the installation throughout the evening. Visitors are welcome to stop by to watch, ask, and enjoy.

During the September 2022 Wiscasset Art Walk, musicians Chris Lannon and Rick Turcotte were playing their blues and country on the sidewalk when a woman carrying a violin stepped up; Chris recognized her and invited her to join in. Almost two years later, that woman, Nanci Stein, with her Long Branch Boys colleagues, is the featured performer for the Thursday, August 29 WAW, 4-7pm.
